LYMPHOCYSTIS

Lymphocystis disease is very common in both Marine and Freshwater fish.  A virus affects the cell of the fish causing its cells to increase up to 50,000 times their
normal size.  It is oftentimes called Cauliflower Disease because the growth of
cells begins to resemble a minute head of cauliflower.  This disease can affect internal organs, but is usually not seen in the ornamental hobby.  The picture above
is a unstained sample of Lymphocystis as seen through a microscope.  If the
affected area is on a fin, the treatment would be to physically remove the cysts
by minor surgery.
